Daytona Beach, FL-A 21-month-old child is dead and her mother is seriously injured after they were hit by a car early Monday evening.  The car was driven by an 85-year-old man who was, at about the same time, being reported as Missing Endangered by the Port Orange Police Department.  The deceased child is identified as Iris Barnes.  Her mother, Christian Sims, was taken as a Trauma Alert to Halifax Hospital.  Both are from Daytona Beach. The driver, Ray Beams, is listed in serious condition.

The accident happened around 6:30 P.M. The car driven by Beams was southbound on Williamson Blvd. near Bent Tree Drive in the outside lane, when for an unknown reason, his car moved to the inside lane and rear-ended a Tahoe driven by 63-year-old Shirley Wilson of Palm Coast. Wilson is listed in good condition.

Beam's car continued forward, crossing the median and onto the sidewalk on the northbound side of the road.  Christian Sims was pushing Iris in a stroller on the sidewalk when the car driven by Beams hit them from behind.  The mother and child were dragged for a distance before the car hit a tree.  The little girl was declared dead at the scene.

The investigation is active and ongoing.  More information as it becomes available.
