The 11 a.m. advisory from the NHC shows that Chantal has slowed down since yesterday as it moves farther into the Atlantic Ocean. Over time, Chantal has also weakened from a Tropical Storm and into a Tropical Depression.

Current models show that Chantal's pressure has remained around 1010 mb while wind speeds dropped from 40 mph to 35 mph. By tomorrow morning (August 23rd), Chantal is expected to make a turn back to the west while the storm continues to slow down.

But, the NHC predicts that the system has a low 30% chance of developing over the next five days.

Additional development is possible during the next several days while the system moves northwest towards Florida at five to 10 mph before turning northeast away from the southeastern coast of the United States.

The newest forecasts related to the tropical disturbance near the Bahamas as become slightly more organized.

Regardless of development, locally heavy rains are possible over portions of the southern Florida peninsula during the next day or two. Parts of the Atlantic Coast north of Miami can also expect a wet end to the weekend and a possible wet start to next week.
