DeLand, FL- A cabbie working in DeLand was robbed by a man using a semi-automatic handgun early this morning. Police say Andre Akins was cleaning out his taxi at about 4:30 A.M. in a parking lot located at 1700 S Woodland Blvd. A newer model black Toyota four-door car pulled into the parking lot behind him. Akins was leaning in the car on the driver's side when he felt an object press against the back of his head and a man's voice said, "Give me what you got." The unknown black man stuck his hand in Akins pocket and grabbed $180. Akins told police that there were two other black males in the Toyota. One was telling the robber to "hurry up." He got in the vehicle and it sped away westbound on S. Spring Garden Ave. Police officers checked the immediate area on the ground. Air One responded to the scene and also found nothing. There were no witnesses to the robbery. Police are checking for surveillance video from area businesses. Copyright Southern Stone Communications 2016.
