Daytona Beach, FL - An 11-year-old boy is in critical and unstable condition after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street.

That's the word from the Daytona Beach Police Department following an accident around 9 o'clock last night at the intersection of Mason Avenue and Clyde Morris Boulevard.

DBPD spokesperson Lyda Longa says charges are not likely to be filed against the 27-year-old driver involved, but the investigation is ongoing for now.

"Upon investigation, it was learned that an 11-year-old boy, accompanied by two other juveniles, was walking west on Mason across Clyde Morris on the crosswalk," Longa added. "The child who was struck did not have the right of way as he walked across."

At least three witnesses told DBPD that the driver had the green light going south on Clyde Morris when he hit the boy, identified as Arion Walker.

The driver remained at the scene after the accident, according to police.

Walker underwent surgery soon after arrival at Halifax Health Medical Center.
