Orange City, FL - Orange City is holding a bicycle rodeo to raise awareness about bike safety.

The Orange City Police Department is sponsoring the event, which is the 3rd annual Bicycle Safety Rodeo. It's scheduled to be hold on Sunday, October 2, at 2 PM. It will be held at the Orange City Elementary School at 555 E. University Ave. It's for students grades 1 through 5.

The event is designed to raise community and parent awareness on bike related injuries, testing bike skills, and to provide a chance for kids to learn proper bike techniques and the proper use of safety equipment like helmets and lighting.

Sergeant Rolly Cavida of the OCPD, who's in charge of the Patrol Division that includes the Bike Patrol Units, says this event is held because it's important for kids to be "aware of all the hazards that are out there and to know how to handle themselves."

Additionally, the Police Department will be helping 25 Cub Scouts from Pack 420 in Orange City earn achievement badges.

Anyone who's interested in participating can contact the Orange City Police Department by visiting their website.
