Daytona Beach, FL - A press conference held on the grounds of Bethune-Cookman University to ease concerns over financial and academic turmoil surrounding the university shows that school officials are looking for a change in some leadership.
On Friday (January 11th), BCU Interim President Hubert Grimes spoke to the media, telling students, alumni and staff that the school was in the midst of taking steps to "get back on track."
Following BCU's 2-year probation which was instituted back in 2017, Grimes said the school has hired a professional to help the school fix some issues to make sure it's accreditation stays in place.
Grimes also touched on one issue that has the FBI involved, that issue being the $25 million that was earmarked for new dormitories going missing. While he has not given much more information on the matter he stated that documents have been given to the FBI.
Following Grimes address to students and alumni, Board of Trustees member Belvin Perry said it's time for a leadership "shakeup."
By shakeup, Perry means to make a motion at their next meeting to remove the board's chairwoman, Michelle Carter-Scott, who has been the ire of some students who called for her resignation back in August.
Perry clarified that not only is he calling for her resignation, but that she be barred from "ever serving again."
At the moment, WNDB is not clear on when the Board of Trustees plan on meeting again.
