Volusia County, FL - On Tuesday, the Beachside Redevelopment Committee will present its recommendations to the Volusia County Council for improving and fostering redevelopment in Daytona Beach, Daytona Beach Shores, and Ormond Beach. The Beachside Redevelopment Committee was appointed by the County Council in May 2017. The top four projects that the committee plans to focus on are improvements to East International Speedway Blvd., road improvements to Main St. and the Main St. Bridge, a request for a redevelopment project for public and private lands surrounding Ocean Center, and the alleviation of traffic on A1A from Seabreeze Blvd. to Silver Beach Ave., according to County records. The committee has named the road improvements to East International Speedway Blvd. as a top priority, including a $750,000 agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for the design and engineering of a single roundabout project for East International Speedway Blvd. that was approved by the Daytona Beach City Commission in February. Some of the other recommendations from the committee are a plan to update and improve the streetscape at the intersection of Seabreeze and Oakridge Blvds. and a plan to widen certain areas of A1A along the beach in order to reduce traffic congestion. All of the recommendations from the Beachside Redevelopment Committee were approved by the committee at its April 16 meeting. Copyright Southern Stone Communications 2018.
