Attempted Abduction On SR 415

New Smyrna Beach, FL - Volusia County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person walking on SR 415 near Rasley Road just after 4:30 this morning (May 2). They found a 26-year-old woman who told them that a man had attempted to grab her and force her into his vehicle.

The victim told deputies that she had been in a car with her boyfriend. They got into a verbal argument and she asked to be let out of the car. She said she was walking north towards Daytona Beach while on the phone with her boyfriend. She noticed a silver truck drive past slowly, then turn around.

The victim said the truck pulled over and a Hispanic man got out and started asking her questions about why she was walking. She reported that the man attempted to grab her, breaking her necklace and a spaghetti strap on the shirt she was wearing. When she tried to run away, she lost one of her sandals. She ran to a nearby residence and the man got back in his truck, headed northbound on SR 415.

The victim described the man as Hispanic, heavy set with dark stringy hair and a mole or a birthmark on the right side of his face. He was wearing a gray, long-sleeved shirt and long pants. The victim told deputies that she could identify the man and wanted to pursue charges.

The case remains an open investigation.
