Daytona Beach, FL - The man suspected of starting a house fire on N Shangri La Dr in Daytona Beach is being questioned by police and treated for 2nd-degree burns he suffered from the blaze he lit.

The Daytona Beach Fire Department was called to the structure fire at 1304 N Shangri La Dr on Thursday night. When firefighters got there they found the 2 story home fully engulfed in flames. The woman who called 911 said she saw a man walking away from the building after the fire started. Witnesses told authorities they saw the neighbor/suspect with a gas can.

Firefighters were able to put out the house fire, but the interior was completely damaged. The suspected arsonist sustained 2nd-degree burns to his hands and legs during the incident and was brought to the hospital for treatment. While he was there, Daytona Beach police questioned him about a possible motive.

According to DBFD, the house that was set on fire was vacant, but it's possible that there were squatters living there at some point.

The State Fire Marshal is investigating.
