Daytona Beach, FL - An overnight fire claims most of an apartment and injures three, including a firefighter and a police officer.

The Daytona Beach Fire Department was called to the Novawood Apartments on South Nova Road near the Daytona Promenade after 11 p.m. on Sunday (October 14th.)

According to officials, a fire started in the kitchen of one of the apartments and quickly spread to the nearby rooms, engulfing 60% of the unit.

Five Daytona Beach fire units and one South Daytona unit were called to get control of the aggressive blaze. They were able to contain the fire and keep it from spreading to other units.

Officials say a total of three were injured over the course of the fire. One of the injured is a Daytona Beach firefighter who sustained second-degree burns on their hands. Another was a Daytona police officer who was treated for smoke inhalation after they went into the apartment to save the occupant, and the third was a neighbor who was also treated for smoke inhalation when they went in to assist the occupant.

According to DBFD, the State Fire Marshal has been called to investigate the cause of the fire.
