Palm Coast, FL - For the third time in eight days, a Flagler County student has been arrested for making threats against other students. Today, Flagler County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call from Matanzas High School. A third party had reported a SnapChat post from the defendant to the School Resource Officer.
Deputies took a screen shot of the post, in which the defendant stated her intention to shoot other students that she felt had been bullying her. FCSO contacted the girl's mother to request permission to interview her. The mother gave permission for the officer to do so without her being present.
Sheriff Rick Staly said, "We cannot stress the fact enough that making a threat will be taken seriously in Flagler County as we have a zero tolerance policy. Whether you think it is a joke or not, making a threat is a crime with serious consequences. Parents, talk to your children - now! If your child is being bullied either you or your child should immediately report it to a school official.
Per the incident report, the deputy asked the girl about the post. First, she denied making the post. When the deputy showed her the screenshot, she admitted to the post but said she had used a different caption. She showed the deputy the post she said was the one she made and again, denied making the post with a threat.
The girl told the deputy that there were two girls that had messed with her for the last three years. She said they were part of the 20-25 people who have access to the "private story." She also told the deputy that there were guns at her home but she did not know what kind of guns were there. The girl told the officer that the guns were locked in a safe registered to her father.
The girl was arrested for a felony, Written Threats to Kill. She was transported first to the Flagler County Jail and then turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice
