Daytona Beach, FL-After two rounds of tryouts, County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue is still short of the lifeguard recruits it needs for the upcoming summer season. Beach Safety Captain Tammy Marris says you can still try out by showing up with the next recruit class on April 2 at the Daytona State College pool.

Marris says having 16-year-olds back has helped, but it's still a slow start. The first round of tryouts this year yielded 54 who passed. The try out consists of a 500-meter swim in under 10 minutes and a 50-yard freestyle swim in under 30 seconds.

Marris calls it the "best summer job ever' and adds that this year lifeguards are being offered a $500 bonus if they work a certain number of weekends and a holiday weekend.
