AAA: Pump Price Trends Falling Into Place For Autumn

Daytona Beach, FL - Gas prices continue to trend down slowly but surely with half of the United States seeing a price drop of two cents.

According to AAA's latest gas report, Florida's average gas price now sits at $2.42 per gallon (regular unleaded), which is two cents lower than last week's average and four cents lower than a month ago.

The Energy Information Administration says that demand for gasoline in the US saw a steady decline, which is usual for the start of fall. IN addition to the drop in demand, EIA data also shows that domestic gasoline stocks fell as well, which is mostly attributed to exports.

"Gasoline demand in early September generally declines alongside stock levels as refineries prepare for the switchover to winter-blend gasoline and undergo maintenance," said Jeannette Casselano, a spokesperson for AAA. "These typical trends mean saving for motorists, leading the way for potentially some of the cheapest prices at the end of the year."

While state averages range from as expensive as $3.65 in Hawaii to $2.16 in Mississippi, nearly all state averages are 20-55 cents cheaper than the same time last year.

Locally, Volusia drivers are paying an average of about $2.41 per gallon, which is a cent cheaper than last week's average.

Flagler drivers are seeing cheaper prices than Volusia, with averages around $2.40 per gallon.

The national average sits at $2.56, a cent cheaper than last week's.
