AAA: Gas Prices In Volusia & Flagler Keep On Dropping

Daytona Beach, FL - Prices are getting better at the pump, especially in the past few weeks.

AAA is reporting that gas prices in Volusia County have declined nearly six cents in the past week, with the current local average of $2.80 a gallon being the lowest price per gallon since early May.

AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins expect gas prices to drop another five cents this week.

"Prices at the pump are still adjusting to the recent drop in oil and wholesale gasoline due to the potential of increased crude output from OPEC," Jenkins added. "However, there is still volatility in the market and pump prices could move higher if OPEC decides against easing production cuts at a meeting later this month."

Despite the drop in prices, Florida motorists are currently paying 46 cents more per gallon since this same time last year.

AAA is also reporting that gas prices have declined for 16 straight days in Florida.

Volusia County's current average for regular unleaded is $2.78 a gallon, while Flagler County is at $2.82 per gallon. The highest in the state right now is West Palm Beach at $2.92 a gallon and the lowest is Punta Gorda at $2.70 a gallon.

Jenkins expects to see this trend of decreasing prices continue unless the market suddenly shifts course.
