Daytona Beach, FL - State gas prices are dropping again after taking a surprise upward turn last week.
That's after the average rose a total of six cents, before falling another three cents.
Drivers around the Sunshine State are now paying an average of $2.59 per gallon (regular unleaded), according to the latest gas report from AAA.
That price is an increase of two cents from last week, yet the state average remains 16 cents less than last month and 22 cents less than a year ago.
"Florida gas prices inexplicably increased last week, despite falling fundamentals like oil and wholesale prices, which would normally lead to lower prices at the pump," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA. "Despite last week's abrupt price hike, Florida gas prices remain 20 cents less than this year's highest daily price."
Jenkins also said gas prices should be headed towards an average of $2.50.
AAA also forecasts summer gas prices to average $2.70 across the United States and $2.60 or lower in the state of Florida.
Locally, Volusia drivers are seeing average around $2.58, which is a three-cent jumped compared to the averages seen last week.
Flagler drivers are seeing averages around $2.57, which is a cent lower than last week's average and Volusia's current average. This is the first time in a couple of weeks that Flagler averages came in lower than Volusia's.
West Palm Beach-Boca Raton actually tied with Naples for the highest average prices seen around the state at $2.70 per gallon (regular unleaded).
Pensacola currently has the lowest average in the state at $2.52, seven cents less than the current state average.
The national average is $2.74, a drop of seven cents compared to last week.
