AAA: Florida Gas Prices Push New Summertime Low

Daytona Beach, FL - New reports from AAA show that Florida gas prices are close to hitting an all new summertime low.

According to AAA, Florida drivers have paid nearly 20 cents per gallon less than last summer. Since Memorial Day, gas prices have averaged $2.56 per gallon.

Their latest gas report shows that the state's current average is hovering around $2.42 per gallon (regular unleaded), which is a two-cent drop compared to last week's starting average of $2.44 per gallon.

Compared to all other states in the United States, Florida has the 14th lowest daily average price. It also had the second-largest monthly decline of any other state, 27 cents, and the fourth-largest yearly decline of 34 cents.

"Florida drivers continue to benefit from oil prices that remain lower than last year," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA. "Fortunately, the highest gas prices of the year, are likely far behind us. As long as economic and global demand concerns continue, it's unlikely drivers will see a significant jump at the pump anytime soon."

Locally, both Volusia and Flagler Counties are looking at averages hovering around $2.41. That's a five-cent drop for Volusia and a six-cent drop for Flagler when compared to last week's numbers.

Around the state, the highest average price can be found in Panama City, which is hovering around $2.58 per gallon.

The lowest average, according to AAA, is Punta Gorda at $2.34, for the second-consecutive week.

The current national average is $2.61 per gallon, a three-cent drop compared to last week.
