Motorcyclist, 74, Struck & Killed Near US 17 & Spring Garden Ave. In DeLand

DeLand, FLUpdate: The 74-year-old man who was killed in a motorcycle crash in DeLand on Saturday has been identified as Donald Sepanek

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred near the intersection of US 17 and Spring Garden Ave. in DeLand.

At around 1:30 PM on Saturday, an 89-year-old DeLand woman driving a four-door Hyundai northbound on US 17 attempted to turn left onto Spring Garden Ave. At the same time, a 74-year-old man from Paisley was riding a Triumph motorcycle southbound on US 17.

The woman then turned in the direct path of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist hit the front, left side of the Hyundai and was separated from the bike before ultimately striking a pole. FHP has confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The driver was wearing a seatbelt and the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.

The 74-year-old has been pronounced dead by the medical examiner. He will be identified pending next-of-kin notification. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
