Volusia County, FL - A 61-year-old man died on Sunday morning after he was rear-ended on I-95 near New Smyrna Beach and his vehicle overturned, caught fire, and ejected him.

At around 2:36 AM on Sunday, a 44-year-old Port Orange man was driving a pickup truck northbound on I-95 in the right, through lane. A two-door Volkswagen occupied by 61-year-old John Beneduce, of Middleburg, was stopped and possibly disabled in the northbound right, through lane.

The pickup truck driver told FHP that he did not see the Volkswagen before he rear-ended it. Beneduce’s car then traveled off of the roadway, overturned, and caught fire. Beneduce was ejected from the car and he died at the scene of the crash.

The crash is still under investigation. FHP says Beneduce was not wearing a seatbelt. The 44-year-old driver sustained minor injuries.
