UPDATE (08-30-18): All 300 ballots were counted and added to the overall totals during today's Canvassing Board meeting, as were 97 provisional ballots. The only result which changed significantly was the District 4 race in Deltona, where Bob McFall fell under the 50% margin needed to avoid a run-off. He'll face Ruben Munoz in November. Earlier reporting below. DeLand, FL - For the second time in as many days, an error involving ballots in the Primary Election earlier this week is discovered in Volusia County. Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis says changes will be made after she learned that 300 vote-by-mail ballots were not counted on Tuesday by poll workers. "I will review the protocols we have in place to ensure this never happens again," Lewis added. "My top priority is serving the constituents of Volusia County and ensuring every vote cast by our voters is counted and counted accurately." This comes the day after Lewis apologized for 10 voters in Daytona Beach being given the wrong ballots when voting at their precinct on Tuesday, denying them the chance to vote for the open seat in Zone 1. The latest error was found while her office was verifying and balancing vote totals ahead of today's Canvassing Board meeting, one which would also review provisional ballots. Lewis says the uncounted ballots were placed on a cart by mistake and discovered while staff was packing empty vote-by-mail ballot envelopes. "I have reached out to all candidates and made them aware of the situation," Lewis stated. The Canvassing Board meeting is open to the public. Tuesday's results won't be official until after today's meeting. The official results are due by September 4th to the Florida Division of Elections.
