Volusia County, FL - The Volusia County Sheriff's Office has issued a scam alert after 2 men tricked their way into an elderly woman's home near Daytona Beach on Monday and stole over $4,000 worth of jewelry.

The men showed up at the home in the 3100 block of S Peninsula Dr just before noon on February 20 and told the 81-year-old that they were from the county and were doing hurricane cleanup in the neighborhood. They said the work might affect the power and water service in her home and they needed to go inside to check it out.

The woman let them in, and 1 of the men stayed with her and the other went to the bedroom. After awhile the men left the home and drove away in a full size extended cab truck, possibly a Toyota.

The woman didn't know she had been robbed until her daughter came home from work about 5 hours later. The daughter realized some of her jewelry was missing, including several bracelets, rings, pendants, and gold chains valued at about $4,300.

Both suspects were described as white men. 1 was described as being about 30-years-old with black hair. He was wearing black pants and a black t-shirt and he was missing a front tooth. The other suspect was described as being about 20-years-old. He had a thin build, black hair, and was wearing plaid shorts and a green shirt.
