DeLand, FL - Deputies, officers and a caseworker stop a 16-year-old boy from jumping off the top of a parking garage.

The Volusia Sheriff's Office says everything happened around 1 p.m. today (November 7th) after the teen went up to the top of the garage following a hearing that upset him.

Once he was at the top, he sat on the ledge and threatened to jump. The unidentified teen then requested to speak to courthouse Deputy Wayne Jones, who was present at the hearing.

Deputy Jones, along with other VSO deputies, DeLand police and a Department of Children and Families caseworker, went to the top of the structure and began to speak with the teen. When he pushed off the ledge to jump, everyone rushed in to grab him.

The teen was pulled back into safety and was unharmed, despite some minor abrasions from the concrete. He was placed into protective custody under the Baker Act.
