DeLand, FL - A 13-year-old boy and 5 of his friends were attacked by a group of 15 teenagers as they walked home from school on Tuesday.

The victim, who's a student at Southwestern Middle School in DeLand, told Deputies he was walking home after school with 5 of his Hispanic friends when he saw a group of 15 black teenagers, boys and girls, near the intersection of South Clara Ave. and West New Hampshire Ave. One of the boys randomly approached him and punched him in the face, then the rest started attacking him and his friends.

A teacher managed to break up the attack and brought the victim back to Southwestern Middle School where he signed a written statement describing the incident.

The victim's mother said she wished to pursue criminal charges.

Deputies found the victim in a hospital bed with a neck brace on, and he had bruises and abrasions on the left side of his face.

That same day a 12-year-old girl reported being attacked at that same intersection walking home from the same school.

Deputies and the girl's mother didn't see any visible injuries, but she said she was walking home from Southwestern Middle School when a girl approached her and her friends, grabbed her and then punched her.

The girl provided a sworn written statement.
