Earlier Reporting:

A 17-year-old girl was killed and a 15-year-old girl was injured on Wednesday afternoon when the vehicle they were in flipped and hit a tree.

The 17-year-old from Pierson, whose identity hasn't been released, was driving north on Raulerson Rd in a 2002 GMC SUV around 2:05 PM on May 17 with a 15-year-old passenger, who hasn't been identified yet. The driver went off the roadway for an unknown reason then overcorrected, driving onto the east shoulder near Brownlee Rd. The SUV overturned and the top of the vehicle hit a tree.

The 17-year-old wasn't wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene. FHP says they don't know if the 15-year-old was wearing a seatbelt or not, but she's being treated at Arnold Palmer Hospital for minor injuries.

FHP says the accident was not alcohol relate and the investigation is ongoing.
