Daytona Beach, FL - For the fourth time this week, two times today, Daytona Beach Police respond to a shots fired call. Today, around 4 p.m., they arrived to find a man fatally shot at the intersection of Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard and Weaver Street.

DBPD Chief Craig Capri said two vehicles crashed at the intersection. Two men got out of one vehicle and ran down Weaver Street. Three suspects wearing masks got out of a BMW not involved in the accident and started shooting with what is believed to be semi-automatic weapons. One man was able to get away safely but the other was hit. He died at Halifax Health Medical Center shortly after the shooting, according to Capri.

Capri said a second shooting was reported today about 5 p.m. on Madison Avenue a few streets east of Nova Road. A woman driving through the area told police that a man came out with a long gun and started shooting in her direction. The car was hit three or four times and the woman was hit once in the lower left calf area, Capri said.

“It appears there are three or four bullet holes in the car,” Capri said. “Thank god she’s alive. It appears she was shot in the lower left calf area. She is being treated at the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.” He also said that the woman did not recognize the shooter.

Capri said his department has put together a task force to work on bringing gun violence under control in Daytona Beach.
