Daytona Beach, FL - Parts of South Florida are now under a tropical storm watch as Hurricane Dorian, albeit slowly, approaches the Northwestern Bahamas.
The National Hurricane Center says the storm continues its slow crawl west towards the Bahamas. On this track, the core of Dorian should move near or over portions of the northwestern Bahamas tomorrow, and move closer to the Florida east coast late Monday through Tuesday.
Maximum sustained winds are still hitting 150 mph with some gusts hitting 185 mph. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles. Fluctuations in power are still expected within the storm throughout the week.
The NHC also announced that Florida is now seeing its first watches related to the storm, as a tropical storm warning has been issued for the south east coast of the state, running from Deerfield Beach to Sebastian Inlet.
More watches and warnings are expected to hit the state the closer the storm moves. Residents should keep plans in place, monitor reports and watch for any evacuation notices from their county or city.
