Daytona Beach, FL - Hurricane Dorian continues an even slower crawl now as the first watches and warnings hit Volusia and Flagler County.

The National Hurricane Center says Dorian is now moving west at a slower 5 mph, with sustained winds at 185 mph and gusts reaching above 220 mph, with some fluctuation in intensity expected.

Dorian is expected to continue over the Bahamas, where it is possible for the storm to lose strength before turning north and up the east coast of the Florida peninsula.

Volusia and Flagler have already announced shelters opening tomorrow morning at 10 a.m., but both counties are now seeing their first watches and warning related to Dorian.

A storm surge warning is in effect for Lantana up to the Volusia/Brevard County line, a storm surge watch has been issued from the Volusia/Brevard County line to the Flagler/Volusia County Line, a hurricane warning runs up from Jupiter Inlet to the Volusia/Brevard line, while a hurricane watch runs through Volusia and Flagler.

Along with the new watches and warnings, Governor Ron DeSantis has suspended tolls on Florida's Turnpike Mainline and selected roads across the state for evacuations.

News Daytona Beach will monitor the tropics and provide updates as soon as possible when they’re available.
