Daytona Beach, FL - The Bahamas are now within 48 hours of seeing the effects of Hurricane Dorian, which has since slowed down again.

The National Hurricane Center's 2 p.m. advisory now puts Dorian east of the Bahamas where it now crawls at 9 mph. Over the past few days Dorian remained near 13 and 14 mph, but this is the slowest the storm has been since becoming a hurricane.

Data from a reconnaissance plane indicates that maximum sustained winds have increased to near 115 mph with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast, and Dorian is anticipated to remain a major hurricane while it moves near the northwestern Bahamas and approaches the Florida peninsula into early next week.

In that time, the storm is expected to become a Category 4. The forecast track is narrowing on South Florida, but the exact impact is still unknown

With the decrease in speed, if Dorian were to continue on this track, the state of Florida can expect landfall around Tuesday morning, just a little later in the week.

News Daytona Beach will monitor the tropics and provide updates as soon as possible when they’re available.
