Daytona Beach Shores, FL - A Minnesota woman is facing multiple charges—including a charge labeled as a hate crime—after she attacked and threatened a gay man and punched a cop during her arrest Sunday night (March 21st).

The Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety (DBSDPS) was called to the Delta Hotel off South Atlantic Avenue after receiving reports of a disturbance. There, officers met with a gay couple that said 42-year-old Sandra Carbonari attacked one of them.

According to the report, the couple was sitting at the hotel hot tub with another group of people when Carbonari began to splash one of them "aggressively."  After that, Carbonari approached the boyfriend of the man she splashed and asked who he was. He replied that he was the man's boyfriend, which is when Carbonari reportedly said "oh great, a f*ggot."

When the man told her not to talk to him that way, she punched him on the side of his neck and threatened to stab him. The man then tried to leave to get hotel security, when Carbonari began to follow him and even grabbed his shirt sleeve to stop him from leaving. He told Carbonari to stop touching him, but she replied "I'll touch you if I want."

Police later arrived at the hotel and found Carbonari in the lobby, who said "I think you are here for me" after officers entered the building. When police spoke to Carbonari, she said nothing happened, but still referred to the couple as "those gay guys" and refused to provide any information on the disturbance.

Officers then met with the couple, who provided their side of the story, leading to Carbonari's arrest for battery, which was labeled as a hate crime in the police report.

However, when officers tried to handcuff Carbonari, she tensed up and tried to pull her arms away. As a sergeant tried to grab her, Carbonari swung her fist around and struck the officer in the arm. Later on, as officers were trying to get Carbonari out of a patrol car, she began to make gestures as if she were going to spit on them.

On top of the battery/hate crime charge, Carbonari was additionally charged with assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence,  and resisting arrest without violence.

Court documents further show that Carbonari has since bonded out of jail.
