Daytona Beach, FL - Volusia County teachers, support staff, business leaders, parents, and others interested in public education, head to Tallahassee tomorrow morning with the understanding of Dr. Scott Fritz, Volusia County Schools Superintendent. So says Volusia United Educators President Elizabeth Albert.  "Absolutely, we are heading to Tallahassee and we are ready to engage in the work to ask the legislature to prioritize public schools and do the right thing for Florida's students."

Albert said VUE and all school support staff stand behind the "brothers and sisters" from Polk County as the Department of Education and Education Commissioner and Governor Ron DeSantis use tactics to bully and intimidate educational professionals from speaking up and doing what's right for our kids. "If they reached out and said, what can we do? Let's have a conversation about how we can make things better. We recognize you're coming, we recognize this rally is an important step. But instead, nope, what we see are these strong-arm tactics. When it comes to kids, we will not be silent."

VCS employees followed protocol by requesting a personal day for January 13. Albert says according to their collective bargaining contract, they do not have to give a reason for taking a personal day. She also said Dr. Fritz realizes the benefits of teachers and other school employees making their needs known, especially in regards to the students.

Four buses, carrying about 200 people from Volusia County, head out tomorrow morning (January 13) at 8:30 a.m. to make the eight hour round trip. The rally takes place between 2 and 4 p.m
