Volusia/Flagler Under Tropical Storm Watch, Early AM Development Expected

Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine

Daytona Beach, FL - The wet weekend that was in the forecast seems to have gotten even wetter after the National Hurricane Center issues tropical storm watches for Volusia and Flagler County.

As of right now, it's known as Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine. But, by tomorrow (September 14th), it could be known as Tropical Storm Humberto.

At 5 a.m. this morning (September 13th), the NHC found PTC 9 just east of the Bahamas on a northwest jog of about 6 mph. This general motion is expected to continue with some increase in forward speed through the weekend.

On the forecast track, the system is anticipated to move across the central and northwestern Bahamas today, and along or over the east coast of Florida Saturday and Saturday night.

Maximum sustained winds are near 30 mph with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and the disturbance is forecast to become a tropical depression or a tropical storm during the next day or so.

News Daytona Beach will monitor the tropics and provide updates as soon as possible when they’re available.
