Volusia Deputy County Manager Steps Down After 40 Years On The Job


DeLand, FL - The Volusia County deputy manager and chief financial officer, Donna de Peyster is retiring a little more than 40 years to the day that she began her career as an accounting intern in October of 1979.

De Peyster is being recognized during tomorrow's Volusia County Council meeting. She started as an intern from Stetson University, then was hired as an accountant.

She rose through the ranks, serving as assistant accounting director then the accounting director. She was named as deputy county manager and CFO in May of 2015.

De Peyster supervised several FEMA disaster declarations during her tenure. Afterward, she fought hard to recover every dollar the county was due, a total of more than $50 million to date.

County Manager George Recktenwald said that "County government is better because of Donna." De Peyster's official retirement date is November 1.
