Volusia County Seeks Input On Hope Place Play Yard

Holly Hill, FL- Council members and the public will have the opportunity to see the latest version of plans for a play yard at Hope Place at a meeting this coming Saturday, September 29. It will be in Hope Place's cafeteria. County Council Members Billie Wheeler and Heather Post plan to attend.

Families started moving into Hope Place in Holly Hill at the end of March. Plans for the facility include a play yard for the children. Volusia County Parks, Recreation and Culture Director Tim Baylie is the person involved in the plans for the play yard.

Baylie said this is the second public meeting to discuss the play yard. The first was earlier this year. Baylie took comments and suggestions from that meeting and made some changes to the original plan, adding benches, a barbecue pit, and several water fountains. Amenities in the original plan, such as two basketball courts, a multi-purpose field, a playground, and a pavilion, are still in the plan.

The budget for the play yard is between $300,000 and $350,000. Baylie said if the Council approves this latest version, he expects the project would be complete sometime next summer.

Baylie wants people to know that the funding for the play yard will come from park impact fees, not the general fund.
