UPDATE TUESDAY AFTERNOON: The Volusia County government has amended its evacuation order to include all of Zone A. Affected residents include Daytona Beach and Holly Hill east of Ridgewood Ave/US-1, Edgewater and Oak Hill east of US-1, New Smyrna Beach residents north of SR-44, Bulow Creek State Park residents, and any residents east of US-1 before it crosses the Tomoka River in Ormond Beach and Ormond-by-the-Sea.
Additionally, residents should evacuate who live along the Spruce Creek River between SR-44 and S Nova Rd near Trailwood Drive, or adjacent to Spruce Creek in the cities of Port Orange, South Daytona, and Daytona Beach Shores. Residents in mobile and manufactured homes, low-lying and flood-prone areas, and campsites or RV parks should evacuate no matter where they live in Volusia County.
The Volusia County government has announced an evacuation order, shelter locations, and a curfew for several areas in the county in anticipation of the impact of Hurricane Milton. With winds up to 175 miles per hour, Milton is looking to be one of the most significant hurricanes ever to impact Central Florida.
Residents in Volusia County who are affected by the evacuation order are as follows:
Those under the evacuation order are urged to evacuate locally as opposed to long-distance, to help keep traffic manageable. Options include staying with friends or family, or going to a shelter.
In addition to the evacuation order, Volusia County will also be under a curfew during the most intense hours of Hurricane Milton. The curfew applies to the entire area of the county, and will be in effect from Wednesday at 8:00 pm to Thursday at 8:00 am. The curfew will help to keep traffic at a minimum in order for emergency responders and law enforcement to have the most mobility during the storm.
Those who knowingly violate the curfew may face up to a $500 fine and a sixty-day jail stint. The Volusia Sheriff's Office will be present in the community during the curfew. Exceptions to the curfew include emergency workers, law enforcement employees, and workers traveling to their jobs.
The following list of emergency shelters was provided by the Volusia Sheriff's Office, being operated by the county government. All shelters opened at 9:00 am on Wednesday. Free transportation to public shelters will be provided by Volusia County Schools and Votran.
Additionally, two shelters have been opened which are dedicated to special needs evacuees with medical professionals present. The county is asking that only one caregiver accompany each special needs resident who takes refuge in these shelters. Residents should also know that these special needs shelters are not for isolated patients and people in need of 24-hour dedicated care, those on a ventilator, or those requiring other complex care.
