VCS School Guardian Passes Away Due To COVID-19

Daytona Beach, FL - A former Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) officer and the School Guardian at Horizon Elementary in Port Orange since 2018, Steven Copsidas, has passed away due to COVID-19. 

Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood said in a Facebook post that VSO was notified today that Copsidas passed away early this morning.  From the post: "Before his honorable and dedicated service to our students of Volusia County Schools, Steven proudly served his community as a dedicated police officer with Daytona Beach Police Department from 1989-2009. "

Copsidas was a widower with 4 kids and a recent new grandfather, according to a gofundme.com page created by his son Steven. You can help out with medical, personal, and now, sadly burial expenses on the gofundme.com page.
