DeLand, FL - The Volusia County Council begins temporary transitioning to online public participation for a regularly scheduled meeting tomorrow (April 7). Some agenda items could help people affected financially by the COVID-19 pandemic. One expedites the signatures needed in order for County Community Development Block Grant and Emergency Solutions Grant funds allocated to Volusia County be readily available for residents.
Another item increases the funding for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program. The money is available because the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity has excess funds that needed to be expended.
County Public Protection Director Joe Pozzo and Emergency Management Director Jim Judge will provide updates on the coronavirus.
Construction on the Veterans Memorial Bridge in Daytona Beach was to be finished in December 2018. The contractor's latest schedule indicates construction activities on the project will be complete at the end of May. Because of the additional time, an amendment needs to be approved for $601,122.70 to cover continued construction engineering and inspection (CEI) services.
A high dollar item on the agenda is the $13,106,590.67 expected to be approved for widening Howland Boulevard in Deltona from two lanes to four lanes from Providence Boulevard to Elkcam Boulevard. That's in conjunction with the Amazon facility being built there.
