DeLand, FL - Volusia County Council members now have a lot of the details of the County’s day-to-day workings during the coronavirus epidemic after hearing from several division heads at today’s regular meeting.
Public Protection Director Joe Pozzo imparted the bulk of the information, leading with the fact that County Manager George Recktenwald is in charge during a state of emergency. He told Council members that the Logistics Branch keeps track of everything ordered and handed out from its location in the exhibit hall of the Ocean Center. "We have distributed 7,375 N-95 masks, 31,351 isolation masks, 4,588 face shields, 384 pair of goggles, and 17,000 pairs of gloves."
Pozzo said as soon as they were informed of the uptick of cases in Volusia County, preparations got underway. "Not only did we order supplies through the logistics center, we also ordered supplies through our regular procurement processes. We upped out disinfectant and cleaning abilities."
They monitor national trends on the pandemic, the statistics, and when it may peak in our county. Pozzo said that the information is put together in house for a daily report. "That helps monitor what the pandemic is doing. It's an invaluable planning tool."
A decision was made by the Council to hear from the County Manager and Division Directors weekly in a Special Meeting while the state of emergency is in place.
