Two Shootings Leave Four Injured In West Volusia

DeLand, FL - Four young men are receiving treatment for gunshot wounds after two separate shootings broke out in West Volusia County.

The first happened early on Sunday (Jan. 16) on the stretch of International Speedway Boulevard/US-92 between DeLand and Daytona Beach. The Volusia Sheriff’s Office says three men between the ages of 17 and 19 were headed to a party in Daytona Beach when another car pulled up beside theirs and someone started shooting.

In that incident, two of the victims were grazed on the head by bullets while the other victim sustained a gunshot wound to the forearm. After the shooting, the victims were able to turn around and drive back to the hospital in DeLand.

Also that same day, deputies responded to a separate, unrelated shooting reported shortly after 4:00 a.m. in Deltona. A 19-year-old man had been shot in the leg outside a house on Lake Helen Osteen Road.

Deputies say inconsistent information and limited cooperation is keeping investigators from determining the cause of that shooting. The victim, meanwhile, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation into both shootings continues. Anyone with information on either incident should contact the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
