Bunnell, FL - A traffic stop on a speeder going 51 in a 35 mph zone results in a drug bust yesterday (July 11). Flagler County Sheriff's deputies arrested 36-year-old Derick McKay of Palm Coast for driving with a suspended license. They also smelled marijuana coming from his car.
Deputies report that McKay seemed nervous and his hands were shaking when they first made contact with him. They asked him if he had anything illegal on his person or in the vehicle. He said no. McKay was patted down and a deputy felt a foreign object near his buttocks. When questioned, McKay refused to release the object. The deputy notified him that he would be facing a felony charge if he brought narcotics into the jail. He still refused to cooperate.
McKay was given a final chance to turn over anything illegal before being booked into jail. He then removed from his buttocks area a large baggie containing a pharmacy of drugs, including a white wet powder substance, determined to be cocaine, a small baggie containing a white rock-like substance determined to be Crack, eight small baggies containing a brown powdery substance determined to be Heroin, two small baggies containing a pink rock-like substance determined to be Ethylone also called Molly, a small baggie containing a green leafy substance determined to be Marijuana, 12 white oval pills determined to be Lortab, and 12 green pills determined to be Oxycodone.
“This was a routine traffic stop that ended with a serious poison peddler behind bars,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “This dealer is not new to Flagler County and despite many chances, he just doesn’t seem to learn his lesson and a get a real job. I hope the courts deal harshly with him and get him off our streets for good before he sells to someone who overdoses or dies.”
McKay charges include Driving with a Suspended License, Possession of Heroin with intent to sell, Possession of Cocaine with intent to sell, Possession of Oxycodone with intent to sell, Possession of Lortab with intent to sell, Possession of Marijuana with intent to sell, and Possession of Molly with intent to sell.
McKay is being held without bond at the Flagler County Jail. He has more than a dozen arrests in Flagler County for a variety of drug charges dating back to 2008.
