Tracy Grubbs Selected for Interim Seat on Port Orange City Council

Posted

PORT ORANGE, Fla. - The Port Orange City Council has filled the vacancy created by the resignation of Kat Atwood from the dais. Out of six applicants for the position, Tracy Grubbs has been picked and will serve in the interim until a new member can be elected.

A special election is currently scheduled for August 22nd to fill the full term that Atwood was elected to serve. The new member will be chosen by the voters either in that race, or in a potential runoff in November.

Atwood was elected to the City Council in November, and served until January 17th when she submitted her resignation. The brief-tenured Council member said she had every intention of serving when she ran, but encountered health issues that would've encumbered her ability to do so.

The last estimate mentioned by the Port Orange city government estimated the election to cost $50,000 from the general fund. The qualifying period for candidates hoping to fill out Atwood's term begins on June 12th and runs through June 16th.
