Orange City, FL -  A 15-year-old boy is recovering after being slashed in the face in an apparent random attack. Orange City Police say the boy was walking on Oak Avenue near Rose Avenue just before 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 10 when he was attacked.

Prior to the attack, the teen had been shooting baskets by himself at Mill Lake Park. He was walking north on Oak Avenue when the unknown suspect came up behind, slashed him without saying a word, then fled on foot.

The victim sustained a large slash more than six inches in length and about an inch deep on the right side of his face. He told police that he did not know the man who attacked him. The victim described the suspect as an African American male, possibly in his 20s, about six feet tall with short hair.

A thorough search of the area was conducted by OCPD with the assistance of the Volusia Sheriff's Office, including K-9 and air support. Officers went door-to-door on the victim's route home for any witness information, including security recordings and the like.

This remains an open and active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Sherif El-Shami at 386-851-7554.
