Daytona Beach, FL - Two people are now charged in connection to shootings that happened on both I-4 and I-95 in January of this year. The Volusia Sheriff's Office says 21-year-old Deon Jones, who's been in the Duval County Jail  since February 11, 2020 on drug and firearm possession by a convicted felon, is charged with 19 counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle and felony criminal mischief.

The second suspect is 22-year-old Tiyana Anderson She is not in custody yet but is wanted on principal charges in connection to each of Jones’ charges.

The first incident took place on New Years Day when VSO deputies responded to several reports of shots fired at vehicles traveling along I-4 and I-95 in Volusia County.  Each of the vehicles hit had damage consistent with BB projectiles. The same type of incidents were reported in Seminole, Flagler, and St. Johns counties around the same timeframe. A victim in St. Johns County was able to get a vehicle description and a tag number.

A joint investigation with  Florida Highway Patrol led to the identification of two suspects. The tag reported belonged to a vehicle registered to Jones’ grandparents. FHP located the vehicle in Jacksonville and found BBs visible on the floorboard. The passenger side mirror was broken in a way that appeared consistent with being shot by someone inside the vehicle.

Through this and other evidence gathered during the joint investigation, detectives confirmed Jones used a BB gun to randomly shoot at 19 occupied vehicles while Anderson, drove. Total property damage is estimated at about $12,000.

Jones has an extensive criminal history, to include armed robbery, possession of firearm by convicted felon, and dealing in stolen property. His listed bond on the Volusia charges is $100,000.  He remains in the Duval County Jail.
