DELAND, Fla. - A 22-year-old resident of DeLand is in custody after a shooting Saturday that left one person dead. Edgar Martinez-Hernandez is the main suspect in the shooting, leading to his second arrest in Volusia County since February 2023.

The shooting happened early Saturday morning at the intersection of W Beresford Ave and S Parsons Ave, according to the DeLand Police Department. When officers arrived, they found a person lying on the ground shot. They were pronounced dead at the scene. No identity has yet been provided by law enforcement.

The DPD was again called at 7:30 pm Saturday about a suspicious man hiding in a backyard. They were able to identify and locate Martinez-Hernandez as the figure in question, and place him under arrest. He reportedly had a loaded gun at the time of arrest.

So far, Martinez-Hernandez has only been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and not with the murder of the unnamed victim. In February 2023 he was arrested and charged with trespassing, and possession of cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and burglary tools.
