Several People Trespassed From VCSB Meeting

DeLand, FL - Several mothers of Volusia County Schools students were trespassed from yesterday’s school board meeting after they refused to wear masks.

The School Board was to take action on Policy 503 which requires mandatory face coverings.

Volusia United Educators President Elizabeth Albert said the group of moms had their children with them and no one was wearing a mask.  "When they entered the board room they refused to wear masks. They were asked politely, multiple times, to put a mask on. They were provided masks and they refused. Ultimately, they became offensive, they became hostile. Of course, social media was used to record all of the antics." The group  was trespassed and removed from the properety.

The board members had a lengthy discussion about the mask policy, according to Albert. She says VUE is advocating for the continued enforcement of the face mask policy.  "We know that as students continue to return to the brick and mortar option, that social distancing in our schools is shrinking. We know that it's critically important to keep those face masks on so that we can minimize or hopefully stop the spread of the virus."  She said that when you think forward to January when Volusia Live goes away and these kids are coming back, we absolutely need that face mask policy. The policy was approved by the board.

Also approved during the meeting was Policy 524, "Employee Use of Social Media Networks." The policy was brought forward at the September 25, 2020 meeting.
