Port Orange City Manager Reveals Decision On Acting City Manager

Port Orange, FL - During a special meeting today of the Port Orange City Council, City Manager Jake Johansson says he's "weighed all the options and determined that for this 30 day stint the best person for the city, the organization, and the department heads based on workload and a bunch of other things will be Jamie Miller, our Admin Services Director." He said that Miller will sit as Acting City Manager and the operational control of the departments will be split between Miller and Assistant City Manager Alan Rosen.

Johansson is asking for 30 days paid vacation because he to travel to New York to help out an ailing relative.  Because New York is requiring a 14 day quarantine from Florida residents, Johannsson will be quarantined. He did say that New York has lifted the quarantine for several states and if they do so for Florida, he could be back sooner.

Also happening in Port Orange, but not during the special meeting, an Executive Order from the National Incident Management System (NIMS) Commander and Emergency Management Director—who happens to be Johansson—resumes special event permit processing. It also adds special conditions to permitting for both major and minor special events, including events at city facilities. The effective day is today, September 29, 2020.
