Physical Altercation Between Two Octogenarians Sends One To Hospital

Palm Coast, FL - An altercation between two men, one 80 years of age, the other 82, turned physical, sending one man to the hospital and the other in need of first aid.  No names are being released because neither man wanted to press charges.

A Flagler County Sheriff's deputy responded to a call just after 8:30 a.m. yesterday (August 6) at the Publix located at 800 Belle Terre Pkwy., regarding a physical disturbance. When he arrived, one man was on the floor in the aisle where the altercation took place. The other man was being held in the loss prevention office.

The man in the office, who is 82, told the deputy that he was walking in the wrong direction in aisle two,  when he was confronted by the 80-year-old man, who demanded he turn around.  When he asked the man if he was a cop, the 80-year-old  grabbed him by the neck. They pushed back and forth until someone lost their balance and the 80-year-old man hit his head.

The 80-year-old man told deputies he lost his balance as he turned around, fell backwards and sustained the injuries to his head.  The incident report does not show that he said anything about the other man going the wrong way in the aisle.

The responding deputy determined that the 80-year-old man confronted the 82-year-old for going the wrong way in aisle two, which is when the physical altercation started. He also determined that the 82-year-old man's defensive action caused the 80-year-old man to lose his balance, hit his head, and be transported to the hospital.
