Ormond Beach, FL -  Ormond Beach Police officers say a 38-year-old man who identifies as female is facing three charges of Inflicting Mental Injury on three children after he screamed racial slurs at them. Due to the intentional use of racial slurs against children, hate crimes are added to Ryan Nunez's charges.  That could change though as the case is under review by the State Attorney's Office .

OBPD responded to the Econo Lodge on U. S. Highway 1 near I-95 at around 1:30 Sunday morning for a disturbance. They made contact with Nunez who said that several people demanded she and her father leave the motel. As she was attempting to leave, an unknown black male punched her, which she said "triggered" her resulting in the racial slurs.

Several witnesses told police that Nunez was standing on the balcony screaming racial slurs at several individuals, including two of the children. Their mother went to Nunez's room to try and deescalate the situation, asking her to calm down or leave. This resulted in Nunez screaming racial slurs at the mother. The police report states that the children were in visible emotional distress and were crying and terrified.

Nunez and his father were trespassed from the property and Nunez was taken into custody.
