Palm Coast Arts Foundation Announces Free Film Screening

Palm Coast, FL - The Palm Coast Arts Foundation (PCAF) will celebrate National Arts In Education Week with a free screening of the documentary film A Ballerina’s Tale- The Incredible Rise of Misty Copeland.

The event will take place on Saturday, September 9, beginning at 11:30 AM at the Matanzas High School Pirate Theater, located at 3535 N. Old Kings Rd. The film is an inspiring true story about the first female African-American principal dancer of the American Ballet Theater.

“The presentation of this film is designed to encourage students to dare to dream and aspire to achieve their goals and desires,” says Dr. Leila Hardison, a PCAF Board of Trustees member.

The screening is part of National Arts In Education Week, which takes place September 10-16. The week is a national celebration recognizing the importance of the arts to a well-rounded education. This week was designated by Congress in 2010 to bring attention to this cause to elected officials and educational decision makers across the country and to support equitable access to the arts for all students.

According to PCAF, studies say that students who study art are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement. "A lot of schools are focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). We'd like to see STEM taken to STEAM by adding the 'A' in there, with the arts," says Barrie Michaels, Director of Events and Marketing at PCAF.

To reserve your seat for the film, call 386-225-4394. This free event is presented in support of PCAF’s mission to enrich lives by providing inspirational and educational cultural experiences. More upcoming events can be found on the PCAF website here.
