Ormond & DeLand Giving Away Trees For Earth Day

Ormond Beach, FL - With less than a week to go until the 49th anniversary of Earth Day (April 22nd), two cities are looking to give their residents a chance to bring some extra green home.

And by green, they mean a free tree.

That's thanks to the cities of Ormond Beach and DeLand and their free tree giveaways, scheduled this week and this weekend.

Tomorrow (April 18th), Ormond will host its 27th annual Picnic on the Plaza at city hall, found off 22 South Beach Street, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There, residents will have a chance to explore a variety of booths and exhibits. But, starting at 9 a.m., the first 500 attendees can drive through and pick up a free three-gallon tree found on the north side of city hall.

Then, two days later (April 20th), staff with the city of DeLand and the DeLand Breakfast Rotary Club will give away hundreds of trees for the city's annual tree giveaway.

DeLand's giveaway begins at 8 a.m., and residents within the city's Utility Service Area will be able to pick up trees from the city's Public Works Complex, found off of 1102 South Garfield Avenue.

Vehicles can enter from Amelia Avenue and follow signs to the giveaway area.

Those wanting to pick up a tree must bring proof of residence, while those who are picking up trees for others are asked to bring the person's written request and a copy of their proof of residence.

Residents will be allowed to pick four trees per residence and a maximum of eight per vehicle.

All trees will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis.
