Sixth shooting in Daytona Beach in over a week

Daytona Beach, FL - Daytona Beach police are investigating after a 19-year-old victim was shot multiple times Sunday afternoon (November 29th).

Police say the shooting occurred around 3:00 in the afternoon at Derbyshire Park, located on Derbyshire Road north of Mason Avenue. The victim, who has been identified as 19-year-old John Phillips, was said to have been shot at least three times. He was later transported to Halifax Health Medical Center.

Unconfirmed reports said that the shooting stemmed from either a fight or an argument, but Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young later confirmed that there was no altercation before the shooting. However, Chief Young stated that witnesses say the shooting could have stemmed from a disagreement over a female.

"This is the second or third one of this nature," said Chief Young to reporters.

In response to the shooting, and a slew of other shootings that have recently occurred in Daytona, Chief Young announced a community meeting Monday night (November 30th) at the Midtown Cultural Center.

"This meeting is for the community to come out and help be a part of the solution," said Chief Young. "We cannot be everywhere all the time."

Chief Young added that two suspects were involved in the shooting—both of whom reportedly ran northbound away from the park after the shots were fired. One suspect has been arrested and the other is still at large. Their identities have yet to be released by police.

This situation is still developing. Check back later for more updates.
