DeLand, FL - A fugitive from North Carolina, wanted on homicide charges, is arrested in a DeLand home by Volusia Deputies Saturday afternoon (December 12th).

The Volusia Sheriff's Office (VSO) arrived at a home off of South Adelle Avenue after receiving word that 29-year-old Lloyd Gillis was inside the residence. Gillis was wanted on a warrant for first-degree murder out of Alamance County, North Carolina. There is where he was charged in the fatal August 16 shooting of a 24-year-old man in Green Level, a town just north east of Burlington, North Carolina.

Deputies arrived at the home and surrounded the property before making contact with the occupants of the home. Deputies also reported that Gillis initially identified himself as Cory Gillis, but a fingerprint scan indicated 91% probability he was Lloyd Gillis. One deputy later found a news article that not only had Gillis' name, but also his face. A video released by the Sheriff's Office also shows deputies identifying Gillis by a tattoo he had on his chest.

A report from the News and Record—a newspaper based out of Greensboro—states there was a reward out for information leading to his arrest. The reward was eventually worth $3,500 after an additional $1,000 was tacked on by the Alamance County Sheriff's Office.

Following his arrest, deputies found about 29 grams of suspected heroin, a small amount of MDMA, a gun box, 37 rounds of .380 ammunition and one empty magazine. Alongside his warrants for murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and violation of parole, Gillis will also face charges giving a false name upon being detained, resisting without violence and possession of MDMA. The suspected heroin has been submitted for testing.
